Professional Interventions (Psychiatric and Chemical Dependency)
Like substance abuse, mental illness can have a devastating effect on a person’s life. There are broken relationships, financial and legal problems, health issues, isolation and a myriad of other concerns. As a person’s life deteriorates, they are forced to shield themselves from this reality by creating a thick wall of defense. This defense system provides further detachment from reality as symptoms worsen. Family members and friends, in an act of love and concern, often and unknowingly support the illness by tending to the needs of the sufferer. They often feel responsible and helpless, building there own defense system while ignoring the obvious need for treatment. They themselves become enmeshed in the illness. As the enabling behaviors continue, the probability of recovery diminishes and the illness slowly infects those involved. This debilitating progression can be arrested. By uniting family and friends, seizing the enabling and presenting reality in a loving way, the defense system can be penetrated and insight can be achieved. Intervention provides an opportunity for treatment, leading to a rich and productive life. It allows the family to remain united and affords them the ability to live full lives. Hanbleceya can help.
Hanbleceya’s interventions incorporate a four-step program to ensure the best possible chance for success.
- Assessment – The intervention team gathers information about the client including diagnosis, treatment history, substance abuse, behavior and the family system. The information is thoroughly analyzed and the team makes a recommendation for the best intervention approach.
- Education – The family system will be educated on the illness, its impact on the family system and the importance of containment. Intervention is not the last effort but rather the first. It begins a journey to recovery even if someone refuses. The system has been forever changed and if it stays strong, recovery is usually inevitable. Maintaining the limits set in the intervention is not always easy, but it changes lives. Our team will educate you and your family on how to successfully get your loved-one into treatment even when he or she says “no”.
- Intervention – The intervention process is comprised of five main components:
- Team Selection – Significant family and friends are chosen.
- Script Writing and Review – Each team member writes a script which will be reviewed by the interventionist.
- Establishing Boundaries – Each member establishes a clear, firm and realistic boundary.
- Plan of Action – Logistics, coordination and communication. Basically we discuss where, when and how the intervention will take place.
- Rehearsal – The interventionist will hear the scripts then discuss an effective orchestration.
- Treatment – Most often, a stabilization period at an acute care facility is necessary following an intervention. This affords the Hanbleceya treatment team the opportunity to begin preliminary assessments while the loved-one remains safe and treatment strategizing begins. Preparations for the upcoming two-day assessment visit commences at this point. If the team decides that Hanbleceya is not an appropriate program, the family is notified and the team begins the referral process. Hanbleceya prides itself in continuity of care. We stand by our clients from crisis to recovery and do everything reasonable to ensure that each client finds the treatment they need.
Other Services
Hanbleceya offers a variety of additional outpatient services. Individual, Family, and Couples Counseling are available specializing in:
Addictions
Disorders of addiction can cause tremendous pain and suffering for individuals and their families. The process of recovery from addiction is often complex. Addiction is typically a multi-determined disorder requiring a comprehensive treatment approach. Behavioral, psychological and medical treatments are often combined with individual, group, couples and/or family therapies to address the many life areas addiction touches.
Mind-Body Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy is commonly referred to as "the talking cure." Yet, sometimes talking alone is not sufficient to bring about desired changes or the growth process can be speeded up by augmenting work with the conscious verbal mind. Mind-body orientations such as Bioenergetics acknowledge the connection between the mind and body as vital to health and healing. Bioenergetics, gestalt therapy and focusing methods, for example, combine dialogue, breath work, directed awareness and physical movement to reduce body defensiveness, ground the individual in reality and promote openness and healing.
Meditation and Mindfulness
Research in the field of meditation is increasingly finding that mindfulness meditation can improve physical and emotional health, increase life satisfaction, and expand one's ability to cope with illness. Mindfulness may be used as a vehicle for change, healing, and stress reduction. The practice of mindfulness meditation helps develop skillful ways to access inner resources to use for personal growth and healing.
Clinical Hypnosis
Hypnosis is often used in as part of a treatment plan for people with a wide variety of health conditions, including chronic pain, depression, anxiety, phobias, and stress. Research indicates that the trance state increases the rate of learning new thinking skills in addition to giving clients greater control over their emotions. Hypnosis usually includes suggestions for relaxation, calmness, and well-being while helping the individual develop a strong sense of internal control and personal empowerment.
Eating Disorders
Treatment is a critical step towards successful recovery from eating disorders. When individuals try to stop on their own, it is typically very difficult and unfortunately they often return to the disorder. The sooner an eating disorder is acknowledged and help is sought, the better the chances for recovery. It is important that the physical, nutritional, psychological and interpersonal aspects of the eating disorder are addressed in treatment. This requires a collaborative partnership between the individual, their therapist, the significant others, and other treatment providers to establish a comprehensive approach to health and healing.
Grief and Loss
Bereavement usually involves intense feelings of sorrow and grief. People grieve in different ways, with the goal of eventually accepting a deep loss and carrying on with a renewed and sometimes even deepened appreciation for life. Therapy for grief and loss teaches healthy grieving strategies in order to avoid bottling feelings up or over generalizing "the meaning" of the loss, each of which can create emotional and physical problems. Working through grief can be a painful process, but it is essential to regain emotional and physical well-being.
